Svätý Charbel Makluf (1828 – 1898) bol kňaz, mních a pustovník Rádu libanonských maronitov. Pochádzal z rodiny skromných roľníkov, vytrvalých v modlitbe a v úcte k Panne Márii. Vo veku dvadsaťtri rokov odišiel z rodnej dediny i od svojej rodiny, aby sa tam už nikdy nevrátil. V noviciáte prešiel prísnou mníšskou formáciou. Po zložení večných sľubov nasledovalo štúdium teológie a v roku 1859 sa stal kňazom. Šestnásť rokov žil v kláštornej komunite v Annayi a potom dvadsaťtri rokov ako pustovník v Pustovni sv. Petra a Pavla v Annayi, kde zomrel na Štedrý večer vo veku sedemdesiatich rokov.

Už za jeho života sa diali zázraky a dejú sa aj po jeho smrti do dnes: uzdravenia duševné i fyzické. Jeho neporušené telo je uložené v kláštore Annayi. Hovorí sa o ňom, že sú to „Lurdy" východu. Miesto jeho posledného odpočinku je každoročne navštevované nespočetným zástupom pútnikov.
