Afrika je rozlohou trikrát väčšia ako Európa, kontinent rôznych kultúr, etník a odlišnej mentality. Dokážeme vôbec my, Európania, priniesť na tento kontinent niečo pozitívne po tom, ako sme ho dlhé obdobie kolonizovali? Má vôbec pomoc cez tak odlišné kultúrne, socio-ekonomické a mnohé iné rozdielne charakteristiky zmysel?

Autor knihy sa zamýšľa nad zmyslom pomoci a ponúka svoje niekoľkoročné skúsenosti s projektmi v Afrike, kde prežil aj určitú časť svojho života. V Ugande pomohol postaviť HIV/AIDS kliniku, v Rwande manažoval projekty zamerané na nutričnú podporu a rozvoj edukácie. Popri práci na projektoch precestoval okrem Ugandy a Rwandy aj Keňu, Tanzániu a Burundi. Tam sa musel počas streľby ukrývať pred odrazenými guľkami.
Svoje vtipné i vážne príhody spracoval do knižnej podoby a príbehy doplnil o aktuálne dáta. Zážitkovou i faktografickou formou sú popísané súvislosti v Afrike, najmä v jej subsaharskej časti. Text doprevádzajú autorove fotografie z rôznych rokov a krajín východnej Afriky.
